Whichever party does it ,it will be their death-knell and they well know it.They are both on slippery ground now so it would be utter stupidity to change and anger the electorate.
Maybe they are both that stupid.

If I order from the UK, I get together with some mates to share the postage. The balance is to keep the combined order under $1,000.

If they bring in GST, then there will be no upper limit to the dollar value we can bring in at once.

This being the case, instead of 3 or 4 orders per annum, we can do a single $5,000 order. With an order of this magnitude from a single supplier, I think we can negotiate a better than 10% discount. That will offset the Tax, as well as reduce the overall freight costs.

The fact is if Australian retailers stopped gouging (at 50% +) above overseas prices then the GST would not matter.

Fact is, whether your buying sports goods, books, electronics or land rover parts the savings are significant when buying OS

Introducing GST will not change things. A rationalisation of Australian retailers greed will.

Yes Gerry I am talking to you!

One would think that he by now would have learned his lesson. He copped a lamb basting from all fronts the last time he tried to mouth off. That also chased a lot of customers away.I for one would never go back and I know a lot of others who think the same.

Absolutely, but add very lazy, top heavy, corporate management and board structures at the big 2 (west farmers and woollies).

Wake up Aus retail. You don't want to doze through your own funerals!

BTW, we love Aldi's approach and the cost benefits they give our budget each week ($100 saved EVERY SINGLE WEEK). Also, add 10% if you must pollies, we will continue shopping on line, we regularly save 50%+.
    Hoo-Roo,

Australian retailers are certainly guilty of sleeping through the 21st century, the Internet based shopping is something that the UK and Europe takes for granted, and now that it is taking off here, a large number of retailers have been sitting there with their hands over their eyes shouting "make it stop,I have 3 million paper based catalogues to distribute with the local paper!"

They're starting to come to the party, but it will be those who innovate who survive.
