Hi Mike, Northline and High North transport have always been well priced, though have become a little dearer recently. Call them direct.
ABC transport would be worth a try also. The usual big name co's are very pricey.

You wont see any change from $1600.
Dont bother with the "car courier" type mobs. They are highway robbers (pardon the pun).

One of the biggest problems is that the transport mobs wont take personal effects, which makes it difficult no matter what story you tell them.

Do you still have my number? Happy to assist where I can.

    cheers Mark

    Hi Mark,

I do still have your number, might give you a call tomorrow if I need a hand.

$1600??!! What are they doing? Pushing it to Melbourne??!

Looks like I have some calls to make in the morning - will let you know how I fare out.

    Hi mate,

    What happened?

I think you should be doing this the other way around, bring the parts to Alice and fit them here. If storage is a problem I've got a secure carport you could use. (BYO driptray) until you get things sorted out.

    Regards

    Jim

Mike, I could pull the motor and box out and send it up that way if suits, you will just need access to basic tools, plus an engine crane, grinder and a welder.

Damien, originally got quoted a price a few weeks back to get a motor shipped up here, and they were asking something $1000 or something. Figured it would be more straightforward to do the engine swop down at yours, considering there are a few people there who have done Isuzu swops before who are willing to help, and have access to everything I need relatively nearby should anything unforeseen pop up.

Phone calls and dropping into transport companies are getting me nowhere fast, I'm getting a flat out no from most, simply because the vehicle is over 2m, which surprises me considering the prevalence of 4WD in Australia, and especially round here. Anyone else, the rooftop tent, or my stuff in the back excludes it.

If I thought the engine in it had a chance of getting me there, I'd give it a shot, but I sincerely doubt it would make it 200km, let alone 2000. As ridiculous as it sounds, my only feasible option may be hitchhiking down to Melbourne, picking up the Range Rover and borrowing/renting a trailer, and coming back up to pick it up myself

If you intend on heading back up Alice way can you store the roof rack and some gear up there and pick it up later. Would that get it under the required height and transport company conditions.
    Cheers, David.

Was looking into that option as you posted. Of the three people I know up here, two are away for the foreseeable future, and the other one got kicked out by his missus last week and is bouncing around between mates houses himself Am checking out the local storage places to see what's available.

This time of the year wouldn't be helping either.
