Thread: Getting tyres in the bush,,

I don't see the point in these survey's,if you go unprepared you pay.I've been in town here with a cruiser owner complaining about not being able to get a filter here,he thought wrongly that he didn't need to carry a spare as toyota filters can be bought off the shelf in woolies,last time I was in Broome another 100 series owner was throwing his arms in the air about parts taking a week to get their from Perth and another not having parts in Oz so ex Japan in six weeks.Maybe if people didn't load their vehicles with 2T worth of ARB gear they wouldn't need new tyres every time they go off road. Pat

There has been a lot of discussion regarding the price of freight to Cape York. Regardless of it all, I would take that story with a grain of salt somehow.....







As for sizes available, I suppose you all aren't lucky enough to own a Defender that can get a simple 7.50R16 as a replacement pretty much anywhere

agreed on the freight.

If i can drive to Bamtown in 8 hours, id say you could get a couple of hoops delivered for less than $2200 ~ Heck if had known i would have done it for 2gorillas and a carton :-)

Yep, I'm with you on that one. If you overload your car after you have "Expedition Prepared" it, you deserve everything you get.

Travel light and keep the car stock.

Hahaha, we had lots of adventures then when I was little.
Loved every one of them, but as I was only in primary school the pressure wasn't on me to get us back home or even civilisation either, but I learned a lot about improvising and spanner spinning from dear old Dad

I thought the reason for bigger rims was so you could use lower profile tyres for smoother running on sealed roads. Why would you use them to go bush? .W.

Probably because most people only run one set of rims

Lower profile tyres are used as you get less sidewall distortion so (generally) you will have better steering response and general handling but, as the sidewalls are shorter ride is compromised.

i had a clutch master cylinder fail on the simpson desert.........

pulled into MT Dare and they didn't carry one..........

good thing i carried a rebuild kit.........

plenty of other show stoppers.....i would call a tyre or master cylinder as seeming you have got to one of these larger towns or at least civilisation i would deem you are safe than it just comes down to dollars

its when you are 400km away from the nearest help broken down it becomes a problem
