Thread: APS Job & Merit List

I worked in the goverment for over 30 years before i saw the light. The old saying in relation to merit based promotions or jobs was " Its not what you know but who you know and who you Blow" Good luck hope you prove me wrong

Is that when you come second in the interview process and they would have been happy to have you if it wasn't that someone even better applied?

It has happened where I am in Qld govt.
You can get a call up without further interview within a 12 month period for that position or s similar one.
Normally though the applicants on that list have gotten a better job or lost interest in that time.

Well cross fingers then. Trouble is I was on a similar type of list with another department and I never got a call within the 12 months. I did see plenty of jobs at the same APS Level with the same department advertised on the gazette though over that one year period So I have been there done that. Yep, ye of little faith I suppose; But then again once bitten....

In the APS it helps if you are a member of the sisterhood

The only way to get rid of an incompetent PS is to promote them.

Or convince them to apply for a promotion elsewhere then give them a "walks on water, leaps tall buildings at a single bound" referee's report.

Some of our managers at DSS were so incompetent even the other managers noticed.
