G'day all. Whitepatch came pretty close yesterday!
The Fireys/Forestry/ rangers and water bombers (1off Kiowa/Ranger &1off Iroquoi type) fougt it to a standstill meters from the houses by about 1500.
The bombes deserve a medal! I went to get some shots of them dropping, but they were below the treeline from my POV. They came on over tgt, fought the crosswind and lowered the buckets to within meters of the fires.

We activated to assist a possible evac of the area, but the water did the job. So we went to movement control (that's me in theCourier mail, yeah, I know, carton!)
There is another blaze that started near the golf resort on Monday, went north and then returned south.
Just as they stopped its' progress yesterday, the wind changed direction and it blew up again : ((
That's where the smoke is coming from today.
    Photos to follow.
    Cheers, Dave

I was booked in for a weekend camping on the island, got an email last night saying all campsites closed.
Good luck to all living in the area, it must be awful knowing that a wind shift could be the difference between danger or safe.
The smoke was very heavy Brisbane area yesterday from the fires.

Yep, hope everyone is OK. The visibility at Eatons Hill yesterday arvo was about 2 kms to the south and west but I doubt that was from the Bribie fire. Not sure where it was coming from as I couldn't find any fires on the Qld fire website in that direction but it was a bit unnerving.
