Lol. How do I answer this..
Keep java and stop stressing.
If I wanted to hack your computer or steal your data, I wouldn't need java.
Might get moved to computers but as it is a security matter more than computer info thought it would better here.
Computer experts and US homeland security have recommended disabling Java from computers due its poor security (open to computer criminals). I've spent the last 2 hours trawling to see if there is any alternative; there are a few. Most notable seems to be Python, however, all the write ups and reviews seem to be by professional programmers and computer addicts and is all about the programmability of the systems; writing code etc.
Can any geeks out there advise me; does Python do the same thing as Java so CAN I SIMPLY DELETE JAVA FROM MY COMPUTER AND LOAD PYTHON.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well, it is considered serious enough for Apple and Mozilla to move to restrict or block the use of Java in their browsers to protect their user base.

Why did you install java in the first place?
Java and Python are both programing languages I think that may have screwed with your search attempts. There are some java based applications that require you to install the Java runtime, programs like OpenOffice. If you don't run any applications that require it, uninstall or if you must use a program that requires java just keep it up to date. Don't update via any pop up reminders as it could be malware in disguise, go direct to the java.com website instead and download the update from there.
thats not far from the truth.
to the OP, if your worried about security, stop using windows. stop using Linux, and dont even think about a mac.
disconnect all network devices and make sure your inside a faraday cage.
actually might be easier to just turn off your computer and phone
no seriously.
all methods of security has a flaw or work around. some are easier then others.
how many people check the cert when they go to their web bank?
who can tell if the cert is forged or not??? not many.
The best solution IMO is to have two browser installed, and disable the java plugin in the one you use most- say Chrome. Then if you do need it, you can fire up ff, ie, safari and you will be able to do what you need to.
