There is an interesting job in Tasmania however it is only for a 6 month contract and the thread about "moving to Tasmania" did not actually inspire me about the prospect of getting a follow on contract or permanency.

Given your situation I would be applying for every job going. You can always decide later if you want to take it [or negotiate for better pay and conditions if they really want you]. It is also much easier to get a job once you already have one.Quote:

Just to say that they are not all tarred with the same brush - I did find a really excellent recruitment person who set up their own company. They went above and beyond the call of duty too. Trouble is over Christmas New Year period they changed their email address.
At the time I did not print off the advertisement which had their mobile number. The only reference to that number on my mobile is their return calls which come up as "unknown number". So I will try their LinkedIn details and Skype - Cross fingers.
Back to IsuzuRover's message - I also have no relatives or friends located in Western Australia or the Northern Territory. So that is a limiting factor too :).

Just a thought, have you tried the old fashioned, much denigrated method of ringing or visiting those you know?
I have worked with a few PhD grads and 2 of the 4 got their first positions through the organisations they carried out their research with. The third through someone in a rival organisation who knew of his work.
The fourth did his PhD through an american uni where masters credits helped so he stayed on in the US as a freelance practitioner.
Worth a try.

However after a long ongoing discussion with my supervisors it was suggested to change the title because it led people to believe that my results were not transferable to metropolitan areas. I am a kid from the bush so it was hard to give the title up. It looks like the new title will be something like The representations of Self Determination in daily life for individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome. Pretty snappy title, aye!

A couple of points:
Never forget that modern recruitment firms have their genesis in the slave markets of Rome over 2500 yrs ago... There were entrepreneurs who marketed those captured in the innumerable wars with the Greeks and others...men, women and children alike. You want a tutor for your kids...buy a Greek because they were generally well educated etc.... selling bodies for lira / drachma / AUD / GBP / USD / FF / DM / Rupees etc etc nothing much has changed, including the "ethics"...
That being said, they rely on "placement" to bring in the $$$, so at 10-15% of annual package, they need to recruit successfully at least 15 people pa for every person in the firm... so time is money and sadly many of them with young and inexperienced staff just think about the $$$$$.
Before sending in a résumé, have a look at the website of the RCSA (RCSA Home) esp the code of conduct. Then when you are about to send in your résumé , call the agency first and ask if they are members. Tell them you believe you are well qualified for the role and ask them how your résume' will be assessed should you choose to send it to them and if you are unsuccessful would they be prepared to explain why?
If they resist, politely explain that you thought they were a professional organisation, but their attitude is inconsistent with the RCSA code of conduct and you'll look elsewhere...thank you!
There are terrabytes of data containing résumés in their files which should be destroyed. In the days of identity theft etc I'd be extremely careful whom Ï dealt with...
Thoughts: There are literally hundreds of people in well paid (high 6 figures) high stress jobs presently undertaking MBA degrees part time. Many of these MBA courses have a "capstone" project which the students complete in groups of 3 or 4 (called a syndicate). Said projects usually require extensive literature searches.
I know of several people who earn more than beer money undertaking the lit. searches for them. A solid week's work ---say 35 hrs... incl photocopying and an abstract of each paper @$30/hr ...not a bad earner... For 35 hrs they might do searches for a couple of syndicates on different projects.
Best thing to do is to approach the Business Schools directly ...AGSM , Melb business School , UQ etc probably best to start with...and offer your services.
With your PhD... listen to your supervisor.. ;) they've "been there" after all and have their ticket. Their academic future is judged on their publicatioon rate and the success of their research students... with all respect, you can't be a prima donna...you gotta have a degree of flexibility:angel:
My somewhat cynical description of recruitment agencies is born of long experience in retaining them to assist with rapid recuitment programs for big projects... There are very few, relatively, whom I would feed. That being said, if you find one which is professional and lives up to commitments, maintain good relations...they're worth cultivating!
