    Kristina Train - Dark Black

    Hello All,

The song Dark Black sung by Kristina Train was played as an introduction to an advertisement for the TV show Winners and Losers last year. I found the link to it on youtube [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0MzFbbg6Y4"]Kristina Train - Dark Black - YouTube[/ame] The genre is described as pop/soul.

I have a pretty varied taste in music and at the risk of upsetting some people I think Australia's own Renee Geyer - 'Stares And Whispers' 1977 & "Heading In The Right Direction" 1976 is a very under rated singer, ashamedly in our country. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjYfkswK_ys"]Renee Geyer - "Heading In The Right Direction" 1976 - YouTube[/ame]

I also like Dinah Washington Smoke gets in your eyes. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_OkmVtUaA0"]Dinah Washington: Smoke Gets In Your Eyes - YouTube[/ame]

So while I usually play stuff like Iron Maiden and The Rasmus to Boz Scaggs - Loan Me A Dime [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RTh5t8yEqI"]Loan Me A Dime Boz Scaggs - YouTube[/ame] I have the DVD Boz Scaggs Greatest Hits recorded live at the Great American Music Hall San Francisco - the youtube link was actually lifted off the DVD - not by me. Another top song off the DVD is Ask Me 'Bout Nothin' But the Blues link also lifted off the DVD [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MWUC0--BVw"]Boz Scaggs - Ask Me Bout' Nothin' But The Blues - YouTube[/ame]

I also enjoy B.B King and I have a number of his CDs - despite this I have not strayed too far into the female vocals blues/soul music sphere very much.

Can anyone recommend some strong, sultry blues/soul female singers that I could investigate on Youtube?

I would appreciate your assistance in my filling up a gap in my musical knowledge.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    G'day Kev,

Thanks - can you suggest any more female soul/blues artists who have the sultry husky sound that you can think of?

    Kind Regards

    Cool Some Female artists

Well musics such a personal thing but here's a couple you could have a listen to,

Lucy Kaplansky; The red thread, End of the day, One good reason, Five in the morning,Turn the lights back on, The heart; All these possibly a little more country/folk.

Janiva Magness; It's your vodoo working, The devil is an angel, I'am feeling good, You were never mine, I want you to have everything, I wont cry, Make it rain; This lot blues/soul/jazz.

Sal Kimber; Sunnyside, Riverside, Sounds like thunder; Folk would be my best description with fantastic banjo.

Like I said, personal but it costs nothing to take a listen. Have fun.

    Regards Chris.

I'm with you about Renee Geyer Lionel, I used to go to the Jet Club in Cooly to see here quite often.....it was a favourite haunt of hers.

Glad you included Joan Armatrading, her rendition of Wild Geese of the Africa mercenary film was brilliant and so was her 1976 album Love and Affection.
Can never tire of hearing her music.

Me I am a Willy Nelson fan, I got to like his music years ago when my eldest son, then an incessant squawker could only be pacified by putting on my mother in law's Country & Western W Nelson album Legends. Angels Flying Too close to the ground and Georgia would shut him up for hours. Amazing!

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Had the privilege of seeing her in a Sydney Tavern in the late 80's. Enjoy
