Thread: Anybody Here From Bundaberg!!

Hello All,

I went to get petrol at my local service station at East Bundaberg and I could not get anywhere near the place. The road was cut off by flood water about half way between home and the servo. Water levels already seem much higher than the 2010-2011 flood.

The new ring road is the only road left to travel between some suburbs.

My sympathies go out to all the people affected by the flooding no matter where down the East Coast of Australia you are located.

North Bundaberg is totally cut off now. Despite this there is sun shine and a gentle breeze. While at the same time people's houses are being inundated - it is a very ghastly and macabre thing.

Heard from my daughter today, they are at Moore Park Beach, near Bundaberg, they are fine, have plenty of food in stock (and grog) but they are still cut off. Power is now back on.

Retired friends of ours are stuck on the southern side of the Gympie floods and their house was in the narrow (only about 100mts wide) path of one of the tornadoes that gave us hell.

Their house has smashed/damaged roof tiles, solar panels, guttering, fences, trees, bird aviaries, etc. All of which I believe was preventable if the neighbors has listened to the advice of the local Emergency services/Police; etc. to secure your yard.

Every piece of damaged to their new house was caused by 3 trampolines and a Jungle Jim thing (none of which belong to them) not being secure in the respective yards. From what we can figure, one trampoline came from half a kilometre away. The major parts of the 3rd trampoline are over a kilometre away from the owners yard. There is also a small garden shed (of unknown origins) near it in the paddock.

Secure your yard people AND check your neighbours

For those who like figures, the river level in 1942 (?) floods was nearly 8 mts. The level for the 2011 floods was about 8.4 IIRC and we are currently sitting at 9.5 with all the water from upstream to come yet. They (the powers to be) think we are close to the peak, which would be nice for many thousands of locals.

Nan & I have been very fortunate in both (2011 & 2013) floods as we are in a "dry" area. With the exception of a few leaks (House needs a new roof anyway) and some small windows blown out, we have had little or no issues. The "rubber-neckers" are starting to **** the Police/SES/Council off though
