    MG returning to Aussie roads.

MG (Morris Garages) now owned by a Chinese conglomerate is set to re-launch the MG brand in Australia.

Will the Chinese made MG's truly be the successors to the MG breed? Drive - MG Models To Return to Australia

They could do worse than to make a K3 with modern power train. K3's were the last purpose built competition MG's and looked the part. Or remake TF's the same. TF's were the last good looking Mg.

    Hello from Brisbane.

Some many years ago I owned an MGB and probably still have a bit of an interest in the brand.

However, a friend owned from new one of the Rover sedans that were made by the UK company that this Chinese operation bought out a few years ago - this shared a lot of its components with a re-badged MG. To be honest, while the car drove well and was serviced according to the book, the service history was not a happy experience at all.

So, I think initially it will be a case of wait and see how well these cars actually go on the local roads. I don't doubt at the price that they will sell well.

    Cheers,

You see them around the streets in Shanghai quite a bit, but at least the models you see there are very boring nondescript cars. If those are the models they will bring here they better be cheap cause they aren't going to sell based on their beauty or sporty appeal.

I had a good look at a couple in Laos last year. Very nondescript and not particularly sporty looking either. All in all they look like any other small Asian car, but with an MG badge. I suspect that the quality will be pretty average as well.

The company the Chinese bought was MG Rover, and Jaguar Land Rover own the rights to the Rover badge so all they were left with was the MG badge.

IMHO they are Chinese made Morris or Austin cars with an MG badge.
