Basically, The same things keep happening day after day after day. Utube the movie and have a look. It stars Bill Murray (IIRC) as a reporter that is sent to cover "Groundhog Day" in some little town in the US. Each successive morning that he wakes up, it is still the same day (The Yank "Groundhog Day")

    My daughter's birthday

    G'day All,

Second of February is Ground Hog day in America - also my youngest child's birthday - today my daughter is 20 years of age OMG, now I feel old!

Ground hog day; from which the Bill Murray movie takes is name, involves the concept that if a ground hog - a big hairy rodent- emerges from its burrow in winter and sees its shadow then there will be so many weeks more before winter ends. So if the ground hog sees its shadow then they have an extended winter. Alternatively if the ground hog emerges from its burrow and does not see its shadow then the winter will finish earlier than the calendar date suggests.

Yes and Pop058 is very correct about the theme of the movie. It is one of my favourite movies - I saw it and worked out why I did not like being a TAFE Teacher anymore! Different Day - different people but the same old Sh-t day in day out!

No my daughter is not a big rodent hmm she does have long hair though....

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

I haven't seen the movie for a long time now!

I've always found Groundhog Day (the day, not the movie) particularly facinating because it's something that just couldn't happen over here

I think that Groundhog Day was an excuse to do something to break up the dreary winter and have a celebration. Middle of winter. See shadow? 6 more weeks. Don't see shadow? Only a month and a half! 50/50.
Groundhog is a type of marmot.
The town is Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. The groundhog is a pet named Phil.

For those north of the border there was Wiarton Willie , and a few of his colleagues spread about the country.

Some do. They consider them to be another type of rat. They can do lots of burrowing, sometimes around foundations. Most of the times, they are harmless.
I have ate groundhog. Sort of like squirrel, may be rabbit. Not bad.
