Going by my experience on the last 3 cars forget about if the mains services have been done.
The Disco, the Defender and the 406 coupé have all the timing belt change done and in the 3 cases it was a dodgy job. I have to do it again.
In the future I rather get a cheaper car with the main service due and ask my mechanic to do it properly that pay top money for one the have the services "done"

We have a 98 300TDI Auto D1 with over 350K on it with history and all belts changed before collecting it,runs very nicely, when visiting a non-franchised landrover workshop one staff member recognised it,when asked it's history the answer was, serviced within a inch of it's life, what ever needed doing during service as done, it had done extensive touring towing a small van and was maintained regardless of expense, so we got a good vehicle

    cheers
