In the mid 1980's the Shire Engineer of a major Qld. rural city enquired of our rep. about earth auger attachments fo skid steer and other loaders. The council cemeteries were running out of space and it was hoped that vertical burials might extend the life of the facilities by some years giving time to develop a new cemetery. Most religions were steadfast in their opposition to this and it didn't go ahead. The district being home to a plethora of god-botherer jumping and singing fundamentalist Christian groups.

There is a cemetery in Melbourne that has taken to in tombing there clients above ground. I was recently at a stonemasons who had a steel framed box (looked like a block of flats) and the concept is you get slotted into one of the spaces they in case you in concrete. The unit I saw held 8 bodies.

Interesting concept but you would need to get on with your neighbors i think.

Bit difficult being laid to rest standing up. Needs a little seat in it so you can at least take a load off while you are waiting for whatever is going to happen to happen. Something does happen, doesn't it?
