A cigarette will not ignite fuel or fuel vapors. When I used to run fire extinguisher courses I would demonstrate this to dispel myths. It takes a naked flame or a spark.
Reminds me of a mate I grew up with in Gloucester UK.
Having just got married in the late 60's he and his bride scraped up enough money (deposit) to buy a terraced house in the city.
He had a Rudge Ulster basket case at his parent's house which we carried up to a spare bedroom.
Then after Friday night beers we regularly fettled and fiddled until the early hours for a few years until it ran and was ready for a blast up the street.
Then again after a guts full of beer at about 1,00 am we both struggled to get the bloody thing down the stairs and the bend at the bottom before the front door. Having lost control of it we saw the handle bars rip the floral wall paper off the stair well including some of the plaster.
Suffice to state that we got an earful from his missus Jan and got locked out of the house 'til she calmed down!
Anyway they are still married and living in Perth WA, I just had a photo from down under in a tour bus all lovey dovey like!
No harm done!

The whole story has the made up.
No amount of petrol will explode unless it's compressed and unless that bike had a whopping big starter motor with a whopping big battery, there's no way it could've started accidently. I've never been able to (kick) start a bike in gear and get it to go. Nor have I been able to make petrol explode under atmospheric condition and if you're wondering, yes. I have tried both![]()
Oh dear!
well technically petrol doesnt explode it has a rapid combustion called a configuration...
throw a match at a puddle and it burns there...
atmoise some in the atmosphere and light it and it has a conflaguration...
contain a conflaguration and.......
so no, you cant get petrol to explode in open atmosphere.
