I picked up a trick from fellow boat owners a while back - when washing your ropes in the washing machine, the trick is to put them in a pillow case or similar. This prevents the ropes getting badly worn from being spun & knocked around inside the washing machine.

Just don't use your Mum's / significant other's favourite pillow cases!

only a problem if you have a machine with a central agitator or you overload a twintub.

I forgot - top loaders are nearly non existent in the UK. I think front loaders may be harsher due to the tumbling effect.

Oh my dear old mum was a bike nut in her younger years!
She joined the Women's RAF in 1936 and rode in to Reislip (London area) on a 1922 Triumph according to another old gal I knew who said "We were both in the Royal Air Force when Pontius a was a pilot.

Fast forward to the early 1970's and my youngest brother (17 at the time) bought a basket case of a 1951 Vincent Black Shadow. We got to fettling in the shed at the back of the council house where we lived.

On one Friday night in November it was brass monkey weather and we convinced the "old lady" to let us wheel it in the kitchen and finish the beast.
We both worked all night on it and had it running by 7.30 am. The sun came out and we had a test run up the street. Ran well!
Then out came our mother with a crash helmet and her floral pinny on and my gauntlet gloves--whatta sight.

Out the bloody way boys! "Fire it up please! 1 up and three down"? And off she went up the road! Ton up housewife!

(Dad just rolled his eyes when he found out! saying yer mother is bloody mad--its menopause yah know)

She came back having had a 10 minute blast down our local Finlay Road. Yeh not bad eh? Grinning ear to ear!
That 'll give the neighbours something to think about!

Poor old, gal died at work at the grand old age of 84, just keeled over and was gone never retired.

Some years ago when I was in high school there was one kid taken to hospital with burns to lower hanging parts of his body, These were caused by dropping a cigarette into the toilet bowl while sitting on it. Seems it had just been cleaned and the lit cigarete set off what ever was in there,
