Some sort of bottom end failure ? Looked like most of the internals came out via the sump.

The worst part is the clean up.

It did look like one or two components that would normally live inside the engine did step outside for a walk around and a breath of fresh air

when the engine really sounded loaded up, it seems that was the crank or one or more conrods failing/ nipping up...then boom.

what a messy and costly failure

If you have your big ends exiting via your stomach wall when doing a wet fart you need to see a doctor!

It is supposed to be part of the production testing at the development stage.
Torture the engine and see what it can handle.

Good job we never videoed some of the dyno runs done on the Signatures when they introduced the new 2 piece piston. There were clearance issues with some of the gudgen pins. They would start and run sweet after a rebuild, but the odd one did similar things to that MTU when full load was applied the first time...

If they survived full load for the first time, they would be fine.

They sorted that issue pretty quick though.
