Thread: spers and mail

some may remember a few months ago my daughter was pulled over on the side of the road with 3 young kids in the car in the midday sun and told she was driving without a licence.. held there for nearly an hour and given a fairly hard time.

she had an outstanding spers fine incurred from not paying a toll

she knew nothing of the toll or the fine, had received no notices regarding it etc etc and was mysterfied how ...

she had actually gone to the toll payment center a few months earlier to check if she had any outstanding debts, got herself a transponder and went about her business as usual thinking she was on the up.

seems the person at the counter that day missed something as the event at the heart of the issue predated her visit.

she was served and had to go to court with possible loss of license and $3000 fine

anyways, long story cut short, many many months later and after 3 court dates, the charges have been dropped and she has no charge to answer.

legal bills of about a grand but no fine and still with license.

i find it astonishing that something so minor can escalate without your knowledge to the point where it can cost you thousands and see you lose your licence and the authorities don't have to notify you by traceable mail delivery when serving notices.

i quizzed my local state member only to be told it saved the government a couple of million each year.

wonder how much the collective personal cost is to those that are set upon as my daughter was?

anyway she is a happier but poorer girl with a license.....

This cancelling licenses and rego without informing a person is ridiculous, what happens if you are involved in an accident and your license has been canceled, your insurance wouldn't pay and what about 3rd party insurance, you could be up for $millions, needs to be stopped or at least cumpulsory notice that your lic/rego is no longer, regards Frank.
