Thread: Should I go with the 90 or 110?

I've got a 90 and I love everything about it... but it is just me in the car 98% of the time and I don't think it would suit me if the kids were still young etc I'm currently setting the car up for touring and have had to remove the back seats as there is very little storage space in the back with the seats in (even fitting in the shopping was a challenge some days).. but having said that I'm still happy with my little shorty..

Both have pros and cons, 2 things I would think about are how much space do you need for all your bits and pieces to go away with, and how far are you going, as the 110 has both more space and a bigger fuel tank.

I have a 110 and love it. But I need the space, so a 90 was too small.

The more space you have, the more stuff you take.

Also with the back seats folded away there is a lot of room for gear for 2 people.
Both my SWB Patrol and G-wagen had more room than I needed for both a Cape York and Vic High Country extended tours. Even had enough room to see clearly out the back. Had a roof tent for the Vic trip. Just have to be smart how you pack and choose the right gear. A roof rack helps too.

And if I want to comfortably take more people I take my box trailer (No.5 ex-army which are coming up in the auctions again)

The beauty of a box trailer or camper trailer is that you can have a camping setup always ready to go. I have just put my roof tent on the trailer for local camping.

So for the 2 of us, a SWB is all we need.

Whether you will be happy with the 90 will depend entirely on what you need to do with it. But it is worth noting that if you go back forty or fifty years, swb Landrovers (and Toyotas and Nissans etc) were almost universally preferred for private ownership, but by about the mid 1980s the preference had shifted to lwb, and in fact the 90 was not sold in Australia for almost twenty years, and swb Jap versions are quite rare today.

The 90 may be perfect for you, but you will be in a small minority if it does. I don't know exactly why this is, but I suspect it is largely because of the amount of gear we find it necessary to carry round today!

I love my 90 and yes. sometimes I wish I had a bit more space. The difference in price buys you a lot of extras though. I promised myself a camper trailer with the money I saved, but I have spent it all on accessories. A good roof rack is a must, and I would either get the dual jerry carriers from Rijidij or extra tanks from Mulgo. Don't believe the claimed fuel economy. There is no difference to a 110. I wouldn't plan on more than 500km even if you have a light foot.

I've been camping in my shorty Series a couple of times, and took exactly the same amount of stuff as I do when taking my 110, with the exception of my roof top tent-doesn't fit on a truck cab!
I just tended to spread it out more in the 110.
If anything the load space in the Series feels larger than in the 110, but I haven't measured to confirm.

If you intend to keep the vehicle for more than 5 years I would suggest a 110, your girlfriendmight become your wife and with possibly a family to follow,then you will need the extra space,I have a friend whom has just bought a new 110,and had a "J" bar fitted to take his grandchildren's child seats/capsules and he still has bags of space around and under the bar

And, a 110 rides smoother with out "SWB hop"
