There has been nothing like it since.

    When I first started racing in '92 my race engineer said;

    "I feel really sorry for you young blokes, you'll never get to hear a full field of F5000's running uncorked"

    One of his old customers had a Lola F5000, (amongst a fleet of cars)
    Might have been an ex-Kevin Bartlett one and Paul drove it a few times, lucky bastage.

    I recall he had a lot of time for Max Stewart, reckoning he was about the best around at the time and a bloody nice bloke.
    They said hsed to come onto the main straight at Oran Park all crossed up and smoking them up. Just spectacular to watch.
    I tried that on the second last lap in a Formula Ford in my first ever race after just taking third and starting dead last in a 24 car field (I didn't make qualifying, still screwing the car together. Paul the crew chief had to vouch for me to the Clerk of Course and Stewards "yeah, he's done hundreds of laps around here" I'd done 6 )
    An FF is a little short of grunt, It didn't work

    The F5000 stuff was all well before my time unfortunately.

    Well although it was a bit of a carry on, you have to consider he has won the WORLD MotoGP twice and was considered the BEST MotoGP rider before he retired, I would say that's a big deal, anyone racing V8s a world champion.

    I watched almost the whole day, I did so hoping that the new COTF would be better(and to watch Casey) I have to say the new cars do have some great changes, makes it now a drivers car, this means that if a drivers is good and can drive around a problem, he will win, this showed when Loundes and Davison dominated the day, Loundes did it the best, he is a great driver, a lot like Jim Richards, who I consider the best driver of all these guys, well he was in his heyday, certainly a good judge of character at least

    Oh another thing about the new cars is, the driver can't lean them out to conserve fuel, so you can't adjust the roll centre or lean them out, so you have to drive the car better to conserve fuel and conserve tyres.

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.
