Well I just read that 4.6 mill in VIC register in 2009 so maybe that's what they'll do.

Yes they jumped maa000 to mzz999 and a few other random ones like fu*000 and w*g000

maa000 - mzz000 is used on State Government owned vehicles, Like the CFA, SES etc as well as other departments, so they are in the mix too

According to wikipedia:

In late 2013 or early 2014, Victoria will have exhausted all ABC-123 format plates with the current Victoria - The Place To Be slogan. Two main combinations are under consideration: A12-AAA or V123-ABC (like South Australia's "S" prefix) Vic - stay alert stay alive - its replacement slogan starts when the new combinations format begin and the blue on white reflective base will be retained.

Maybe something like SA. They have gone from AAA000 to S000AAA. Maybe we get V000AAA?

Queensland went from alpha-number to number-alpha and changed from white on black to green on white same time. No problems.

In black and white 3 letter 3 number plates Victoria started with G in early 1950's. Then H around 1960. J around 1964, K around 1969, L around 1972, then back to I which had earlier not been used in about 1975. A couple of years later the first green on white reflective plates appeared, starting with A. Went through to F to about '93. Note regarding these early reflective plates, a lot were faulty with paint coming off so many vehicles of this vintage were issued with current ones at the time they were replaced for no charge,

When F was finished some starting with RA and RB were issued, then the sequence started again from NAA. Note plates starting with M have long been been used in Victorian Government vehicles, originally white letters on dark red backgound but more recently the other way around. Anyway, since early 90's plate numbers have continued through the alphabet including RC onwards. However V was missed, as I was years before. Maybe judged that there would be lots of plates with similar looking first letters at the same time causing some recognition problems.

However, when Z is finished, there will be a lot less plates starting with U and W around. So I reckon we will probably see three letter three number plates starting with V before some new sequence is started.

As mentioned in a post above, some three letter combinations which spell words which would be regarded by some as offensive are normally skipped over in number plate sequences. Reminds me of a story I heard many years ago. Apparently a batch of plates intended for use on their vehicles was supplied to Queensland Police. Letters were PIG. For some reason they sent them back.

Nice story, but it was actually some OAF that were allocated out of sequence to a batch of police vehicles by a cynical public servant. I don't know what the subsequent witch hunt turned up.

Some GOY were issued and then recalled, and JEW were withheld from issue. My Orthodox Jewish mate in New Jersey wanted me to somehow get him one of each to hang on the wall at their shop. I imagine some offensive combinations were also withheld.
