i've sediment sampled in the pilbara in jan and feb, 60 odd degrees in the sun, couldn't stand still on the granite in my boots they were so hot. drank litres of water after dawn, then by 11am felt the first stages of exhaustion. like pat says too late to start drinking then, just shade and rest. was a pretty amazing part of the country to work in!

Know what you mean. I worked in and around the old blast furnaces at BHP Newcastle plant for about 20 years - same deal, exposed molten metal and slag @ 1500 C, very hot & poisonous gases at times. Regardless of the heat you had to wear thick knee length / ankle length coats with long sleeves and collars that buttoned up tight around the neck while ever there was the possibility of exposure to metal.

You got used to it and learnt to be smart about coping with heat. But no, it's not pleasant and while I miss the blokes I worked with, I don't miss the blasted furnaces one bit.

I thought it was pretty hot in the crematorium where I work our furnaces are "only" running 900C. Can't imagine how bad some of the places described above would be!
Dragged in for a family viewing today, so have to wear suit & tie! (itchy and hot) Why you would want to watch is beyond me...

Wouldn't want any last minute escapees would you....?

Hang on, they said they were family. There wasn't a bald guy stroking a white cat there, just out of interest?

It was hot enough two months ago to melt the tread off my MTR's and I had to wrap my wheel brace in a rag to hold on to it,I couldn't even kneel down the ground was that hot. Pat
