    $ symbol

    i have noticed on a couple of forums that the $ symbols seems to be moving to the end of the figure???

    $100
    100$

    its just not cricket.......i.e. 3/427 is the correct way, 427/3 is incorrect (this will be the aussie's score for the 1st innings 3rd test)

    yep, 3/427 is correct......... when reading the bowling figures!
    Why is Australia the only country to get it the wrong way round? Bit like France driving on the wrong side of the road perhaps?
    Totally agree with the $ part

    In that respect, I have great displeasure in that and other illiterations or grammatical errors, such as the use of a hyphen behind the word "that", or the proper noun "Australia", typed without capitalising the first letter, a space between a word and a comma or finishing a sentence without the period symbol.

    I do however fully accept I'm a dinosaur with an understanding the universality of Muphry's Law.

    You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    I fully agree Diana. My appreciation of the English language and all its intricacies isn't fantastic, afterall I'm an Engineer, not a Poet. That said, I am finding with an increasing frequency (on the forums) that I need to translate people's dreadful English into something I can actually understand before I can read it!

    Maybe Im getting old, maybe people are getting lazy... or maybe I'm getting old Either way I do find bad / incorrect English very annoying.

    By the way, I dread to think how many errors are contained in this response!!

    it annoys me sometimes when people get annoyed about writing on here. I guess it depends how you take it on here. to me it is just a casual chat without needing to be all proper, the way i see it is can you understand what i am saying? yes you can. can i understand what you are saying yes. some people get a bit picky and i understand different generations etc. i am not saying you are right or i am but just accept people write differently and if you cant except that dont read it. some people get too caught up in arguing the point that they actually miss the point.

    If you are happy to write so that some people find it hard work figuring out what you mean and if you are happy that some people just give up and ignore what you have to say, that is OK.

    My attitude is that if I want to say something, I have a responsibility to make it easy for people to understand.

    I also have a responsibility to reduce the chances of someone misunderstanding my message.

    I don't always succeed, but at least I make the effort.
