not to hijack the other horse thread...
It did remind me of these pics of my younger years. I only have a few pics of early on. I remember going to regional/county fairs with the team to do sled pulls. Kind of the modern day truck pulls. Again, the Draft horses were my favorite...

I kicked my Moms car out of gear and it/we subsequently ran into the wagons you see in the back ground, ruined one of them...
Thanks for looking/letting me share some very fond memories...

must have been nice growing up with your own 'kingdom' so big!!
so where is it?!
The ranch was called "Buckeye Ranch" in Lafayette California (google will come up with some stuff). The owner Bob Keeney leased the property from the city, several hundred acres. He raised cattle for beef, stabled horses and was open to the public to come and rent horses to go on guided rides.
When the lease came up in the late 70's the city would not re-new it. They wanted to sell the land to developers. There was much a-do about that, was on the news quite a bit because he was loved by the community, employed many local young adults through the years. He took the place down piece by piece and rebuilt some of the buildings including the covered arena (seen in the arial pic I posted) on his Dixon CA Ranch where he and his wife sold tack and gave riding lessons.
After the city got the property back it was discovered that they could not develop the property due to demographic reasons. Now it stays as an open area (county park) with all the trails still available for the public. I still have trouble going there and seeing no buildings that once were...

City,Town and Shire (County)Councils often make decisions that do not take the feeling of the residents into consideration.
