I love the proximity key of my work Prado. The only issue I have had with it is when I placed it on a table at a motel not realising that it was in range of the car the whole time meaning the car was effectively unlocked.

I keep it in my top pocket so I never have to look for it when getting into the car. My only concern is that one day I will put it through the wash.

Mate--greetings again to you fellow ex Leyland bloke.
For info I have a customer up in Ft Collins who is a transplanted Rhoadie.
I will pass on your comment--I bet I will get a giggle, he is as specialist arms maker/gunsmith.
    Cheers & best regards

Went surfing with a mate the other month for the first time in 30 years

In the old days we used to park the HQ up , put the remote house speakers out on the tailgate and crank up the sound while we were out in the surf. Lock/schmock.
In our most recent outing in his xtrail he had to lock it somehow, wrap the key in foil and put that in a combination key lock hidden underneath

Fondly recalling my old Datsun 1200 Coupe, and my Escort series 2 hotties.
Both would *only* lock the deivers door with the key, they would both force the button lock into the up position if you tried to lock them any other way, ie, push down the button and hold the handle while closing the door, no way would they lock the drivers door.
Now *that* is what I call a smart car.

Why do I call them hotties?. Simple, both were capable of showing clean heels to most V8's at the time.

I think I might have a problem waiting to happen. I don't have keyless entry but I have a smart key in the D4SE. i have no idea how it really works and what it does.

What happens if I leave my key in the car unlocked, say, at a remote beach/ camping spot etc where I'm not overly concerned about security? I know to remove it and lock when leaving the car to shut down the computer for an extended stop to save the battery but I might decide to leave it for half and hour or an hour. Does the car eventually lock itself with the keys inside?
