The problem with sports gambling advertising is that it it does not discriminate between thinking sports fans like yourself and problem gamblers and those too good not to bet on odds. This is before we even think about the children.
We are encouraging our kids to get involved in good healthy sports expecially team sports and watching the footy on TV is a part of that. The presenting of gambling ads and betting odds is that it normalises gambling as an integral part of the game before the kids get a grasp on how to handle their money. They have plenty of time to learn to gamble when they become adults, don't spoil the sports for them as a child.
As for what will replace gambling advertising on TV, don't worry about it, the broadcasters will always find advertisers, they filled the gaps left by cigarettes and they filled the gaps for jumk food during kids programming. They will always find people who want to sell products, whether it is the next diet fad, the latest exercise aparatus or a new sleeping bag suit to wear on the couch watching the tube!
Ads in general give me the irrits , so as a personal thing I try and avoid coomercial radio and tv. Often the shows we like are taped , so fast foreward through. I have yet to see anything advertised that I want or need that wasnt already planned for purchase. Just remind the ad agents every year on the buy nothing day
er yes i have kids......however they are influenced everyday by a 1 000 000 thing......nearly everyday day they ask me about something they have seen or been part off and i take the time to discuss it with them.......every now and than i cannot answer the question so i go off and find out. i think its good that the see as much as they can so they can ask question, learn and make there own minds up.........Quote:

Not having a go at you , Weeds, it's just that sometimes we have to make a stand, and I happen to disagree with the betting adds going to air when we know there will be a great many children watching the football. The same could be said for the fast food ads, I guess, and you are right, Parents are responsible for educating their children in life matters. As you no doubt know, youngsters take everything in, sometimes even when we are not aware of it. BobQuote:
