    Too Right!
The expression about ignoring history and bound to repeat it comes to mind.

Its easy to get tangled into a major conflagration.
We only have to look to 1914 and the assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand of Austria who was shot dead by a 19 years old called Gavrilo Princip, of the political fanatic Black Hand gang (June 1914).

Due to "old" alliances the major empirical European powers fell on one another settling old scores (which many didn't know what they were in any case)!

The British Empire having had a running cold war with Germany for ten years. These two spoilt nations really got it going over what amounted to nothing really.

The end result was a drastic change in the power blocks of the world; the results of which we are now living under today it can be argued.

If any of you skipped out of the history classes in school or were more interested in the girl sat next to you, here are the potted details:-

I don't believe he is a political fanatic. IMHO, this is all about power and attention seeking, rather than ideology. Just a spoilt little boy that's had his blanky taken away, it's just a little unfortunate that the toys he can throw out of the cot are nuclear.

So if he sends off Nukes and the Yanks retaliate by nuking him, what cost to casualties in the South. Nuclear radiation just doesn't stop at the border.
We have seen many theatres where US has got involved and have said, it'll be a short conflict, but instead it gets drawn out. Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan.etc

Could you imagine North Korea striking and then being nuked off the face off this planet. Even a madman wouldn't be that stupid surely to risk it?

I'm thinking more along the lines that the difference between a religious fanatic and a political fanatic is that a political fanatic knows that when he dies, his cause dies with him.....

IMO it's all about internal politics and shoring up a power base.

He's trying to wrangle some concessions, food and energy from the outside world to show he's tough for the Generals who, while not having their hands on the levers, can get rid of him (he's only a puppet) and the coterie behind him.

He had no internal cred before coming to power, his old man didn't groom him as his granddad did for his father so we now have this crazy show going on.
It's telling that China has amassed a reasonable amount of troops and armour across their border, the Chinese are terrified of a govt implosion in Nth Korea and subsequent mass refugee exodus, something they just don't want or need.

I don't think US would try to wipe them out, especially with nukes. I don't think they would do that to South Korea and when China steps in with North Korea then it would really hit the fan.
