    Fuel Contamination

A friends MY93 Discovery V8 has an issue

He borrowed some fuel from a couple of Jerrys at work

Soon after the Disco was coughing, backfiring and losing power, he limped about 15km back home at about40km/hr.

The fuel from work may have been contaminated with diesel aswe use a diesel petrol mix for controlled burns at work
Do the symptoms fit a contamination with diesel?

What damage is likely to have occurred?
Is there an easy way to drain the tank of a Disco?

Thanks in advance for your help.

There would be a lot of black smoke if its a Diesel mix, the symptoms are correct for it. Otherwise some paint flakes have part clogged the filter. As for draining, maybe remove the fuel line somewhere & extend to the Jerries & switch on ignition? . Not sure if there is a drain plug.

the cars i repaired that had diesel blend required oil change ,O2 sencor and sometimes plugs..

mazda mpv drove normally with a 50% mix-but it made 4 liters of "oil" over a few days.

other cars i repaired was hard to start or fowled plugs due to O2 sencor maxing out the fuel ratio.

some other cars gave no indication other than fuel milage and smell.
if the mix went in when hot most modern engines adapt.its when it gets very hot and the fuel starts misting or if its cold and you get lean mix backfires.
