What a rubbish piece of journalism that is!! Nothing but reading off the spec sheets!! And to say the Prado is better off road is crap, I've driven both an SDV6 Disco and the new Prado, and theres no point in having a bigger fuel tank if you'd going to be hung up on it somewhere offroad. That guy needs sacking, what a moron.

There you go, I had no idea the D4 came with a manual gearbox.
    Learn something every day.
And I'd agree that he's clearly never taken either of them further than perhaps that road that's being re-gravelled near his office.
But he still puts the D4 above the Prado.

    Off-road capabilities

Land Rover: On paper it is the pick. Greater ground clearance (310mm v 220mm), better approach, breakover and departure angles and the same wading depth (700mm). And as a nice bonus the navigation system also includes off-road trails. But given Land Rover's reliability reputation I wouldn't want to take it on the big outback trip.

Toyota: The Prado and its big brother, the LandCruiser, dominate the outback roads with good reason. Toyota has earned a reputation for taking you as far as you dare go off-road and bringing you back. Add to that the long-range fuel tank (150 litres compared to Disco's 82 litres), which provides greater range, and it shades the Disco.

    Winner: Toyota
So let me get this right...... the Offroad Capabilities section was determined on his perceptions of Land Rover reliability and that of the Prados big brother the Land Cruiser. Nice work.

I dont think he drove them, and perhaps this is the tell tale.

Yes strange they are still going on about the reliability of Land Rover even when clearly the new Land Rovers are as reliable as all the others nowadays, especially given the issues they are still having with the D4D engine.

    Odd really.

A laughable piece of journalism. Especially when, as Muppet has pointed out, he's listed the D4 as a manual. There appears to be no manual option mentioned anywhere in the D4 specs.

So a scoring that's not even based on true testing. Sounds accurate, doesn't it?

A manual D4 is available in the UK, it would be a special order here though.

So he's probably looking at a UK spec brochure for the D4.
As for "Toyota has earned a reputation for taking you as far as you dare go offroad and bringing you back"
There's a reason the SAS drive land rovers.
