I believe its simple enough, very similar to aircon compressor with clutch, just need to mount it suitably to run off your fan belt.....
Seeking some advice on how to, or if it is possible to mount an air conditioner compressor to a 300tdi discovery to pump up my air tank (from a p38) or is there a better alternative? the air tank is for future lockers, pumping up tyres and air horn.
thanks

Yes as said, get it mounted and driven off the belt. Then you need to determine if you are going to oil it via a connection to the crankcase gases or not, if your going to separate the oil and water post compressor, cooling the air if it gets too hot so it doesn't melt your hoses. Unless your going to run air tools, your not going to need a real big tank.
I have a truck air brake cylinder which helps the electric compressor catch up as your airing up.
Thats in the works on SWMBO's vehicle ATM (Since I've got to pull out the freshly new cooling systemd engine out to replace the clutch I wasnt told was also dodgy)
I'm looking at welding the adapter plates of 2 TDi 300s together.
If shes not lucky it'll get a compressor via means of Cut aircon lines and splice on air fittings.

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
Depends if you want air-con or not...
As has already been said, the usual place it to use a modified air-con compressor & associated bits to drive it.
