Best vacuum cleaner????????

We need a new vac in the next few months as well. We have one on lend from friends that went overseas that are returning soon!

I've heard excellent things about the robots from friends who have purchased them, however they all say you really need a normal vac as well. The robots don't do a deep clean, they do a light clean everyday. Plus what if there is a spill of chips or whatever on the carpet. We have stairs with carpet on them as well... A robot is on the list, but for a while after we buy another normal vac.

The vac we have on lend at the moment is a Wertheim. Definitely like it, but hasn't dazzled me enough to just blindly buy another one. I'm keen to try something else if research and recommendations say so.... So thanks for starting a thread!

I bought a nilfisk g90 allergy vac about 17 years ago. It was about the only asthma approved vac on the market and about the only to have a hepa filter. Today it still works like it did the day I bought it and it has fantastic suction when the bags not full.

This year I bought a dyson Motörhead because Roxy my dog puts out way more hair than Simba my previous dog and so wanted something with a proper powered head and no bag. The suction isn't as good but the Motörhead more than makes up for that with pet hair.

We have had a Wertheim for at least 8 yrs,been fantastic.One of the hoses did break/wear out,got another off ebay,no problems at all.

We also have a dyson battery one,it played up with 3 days left in warranty.Rang them on their 7 day hotline,sent it on post paid to them,they fixed it and sent it back post paid.Also was a note saying all the replaced parts have a two year warranty.
Great service and a great vacuum cleaner.

I got a Nilfisk recently and I must say they have come a long way. A bit of a spend, but with any luck I won't have to buy another one ever again! :D

Surprising that here on a Land Rover forum nobody has not yet commented on vacuum cleaners with Joseph Lucas, Prince of Darkness type performance. Rumour has it that at some stage, Lucas produced a vacuum cleaner and it was the only thing they made that didn't suck! Presumably its performance would have similarities with those of Lucas "inventions" and accessories in many older Land Rovers such as the first self dimming headlight and the first intermittent wiper! Probably anyone repairing these Lucas vacuum cleaners should also have some understanding of the Lucas principle where electricity is conducted by smoke. Also.it seems desirable to have access to a supply of Lucas wiring harness smoke to replace any lost from small fires as well as other commonly needed spare parts.

I on a few occasions where I have been in a house that have the windows that go to the floor opened up all the doors and windows and used the garden blower to clean a house out does a way quicker and better job then a vac will ever do :D

Not helping ... :-)

Picked up a Kirby from the roadside... replaced the belt and washed out the (fabric) bag-holder. PO had'nt bothered to buy the paper bags. :o

Or Godfrey's - built "Hoover" lasted 3 years, around $250 per year. :eek: Motor zapped itself. Powerhead was good, the connectors in the suction pipe were LUCAS...

Currently using a very old 'LUX' barrel with (super-quiet) powerhead. Works well and so do all the electrical plugs...

Not impressed with re-badged 'house' brands from specialist vacuum stores... Roadside or cheapies do us now.:p:p:p

Or you pay heaps and buy European, - and pass it on to your grand-kids...

Another vote for Dyson here. Had one 8 years with no issues. Ours is an upright and I haven't seen anything better for picking up cat & dog hair - we have 4 cats, and 3 dogs - 2 of which are Pugs, so we need something decent, and the Dyson certainly is.:)
