Hmm a insight into the private life of one Defenderzook. :) Boy that accident must of sucked big time. Any way there is in our Aldi flyer a wet/dry bin vacuum for sale. We had a Sanyo bin vacuum cleaner for that long I think it was listed by the national trust. Bit like the family axe though. Couple of motors along the way, new hoses and heads. The only origanal bits were the bin, wheels and lid. It was the plastic in the lid that finally gave up. Got a cheap Chinese one, you pay for what you get. I`m sure this vacuum does not meet noise regulations. The sound this vacuum makes is amazing. If you had this near a jet warming up it would still be heard. So might have a squiz at the Aldi one.

We just got a 2 and a half year old Kirby Sentria G10 I think it is. Gumtree is your friend. I paid $350 for mine without the Shampoo attachment and I wish I had it. there was one the same with the shampoo attachment for $300 a couple of weeks ago. they go to high on ebay so stick to gumtree. genuine bags a about $35 for a 6 pack from the US on ebay and that is a lot cheaper then the local one. it is not a simple machine but is awesome at cleaning carpet.
I shopped around and worked out I would need to spend about 500 for anything decent. there is a reason why they are selling 20 year old kirby machines on ebay they are built like a tank to the point that they are self propelled.
not worth the 4k new but second hand they are a Bargin.
we can feel the difference in our carpet when you walk on it in bare feet.
thats what I think.
Cheers
Matt
We have a Dyson DC23 Motorhead
Dyson DC23 Motorhead is a barrel vacuum cleaner with a motorised head for a deeper clean on carpets, and Telescope Wrap™ system for easy storage.
I think it is the motor head that makes the difference as it picks up the pile and allows the dirt to come up from between the pile. Very noticeable when you have run the Dyson it leaves visible clean strips where you have run the vacuum.
Brace yourself for the cost.
Back in my sodbusting days the farmer I worked for went shares a new header, the syndicate also bought a big vaccum cleaner to clean it.Like a workshop vacc, but based on a 44 gal drum.It was very strong.
We called it Monika Lewinski.

Our Dyson is 14 yrs old and going strong... No warranty needed and the wife is strong on cleanliness so it gets a good work out!
Kirby - I made the guy look like a goose one day... And he was even less happy when I showed him I could import a 240v version from the USA for less than a 3rd of the price.
Kirby are the Harley of Vacuums..
1940 designs sold in 2013 at a price 3 times the value...
They (Kirby's) might cost a lot of $$$$,but if you want to shampoo your carpet, which is recommended by the manufacturer, you have to trudge down the road, get one from BigW,Kmart or wherever.Lug it back home,do the job, then lug it back.
No thanks, I prefer my all in one Kirby thanks, plus I think it does a much better job than the shop ones.
cheers
From my research- The Kirby shampoo system doesn't meet the requirements for warranty from carpet manufacturers whom specify; Hot Water Extraction (and only every 2 years!)
And I will always get a professional cleaner out anyhow - for $150.00 they have far more powerful gear than a Kirby.
Can you imagine it... You ring a carpet
Cleaner and he rolls up in his van, unloads a Kirby... You'd tell him to nick off!
Without the steam power of a serious (vehicle mounted) cleaning unit you're washing most dirt down into the underlay.
To each their own...
This is the wonder of Capitalism :)
Someone will make something for everyone.
Professional job always the best bet but for the money of about $60 ill be getting a kirby system attachment.
Biggest key is the power head regardless of the vac you get.
Well a big thanks to all those that replied, I ordered a dyson DC29 multifloor with the extra turbo head the best price was the good guys, hundreds cheaper than elsewhere but with $90 freight..put it to Havey Norman and they where a little rude, and then retravision Albany, who matched the best price and will deliver free... So thanks again ..Gary
