I've had Hoovers,Nilfisk and various other brands over the years.
My friends have a Kirby,I borrowed it to shampoo the carpet when I was moving house. After getting frustrated with it at first,I got the hang of using it and I bought my own not long after.
They cost around $2000,but I bought mine of fleabay for $900 or so and it was only 10 months old.
Best vacuum cleaner I've used.Have had it 12 odd years now and the only thing that gets replaced are the drive rubber and the bags.

    cheers

Our GM200E was a great unit. As I mentioned we just plain wore it out

Just replaced a 20 year old Hoover that caught fire. As we have a LNG haired white cat that sheds like a I bought a Dyson animal. It is bloody expensive and a little bit fiddly to use, also emptying the canister is a PITA. But the job it does is amazing. Only had it about 4-5 months but so far very happy with the results.

    Thumbs up

Nearly a year ago we bought an iRobot Roomba vacuum and a few weeks later a Scooba. They are both really good. We have an average sized house with four dogs and two cats. We live on a small farm. To clean the floors we just turn on the robots and off they go.

Roomba does sweeping/vacuuming of hard floors and carpet. Scooba vacuums and mops hard floors only. I was sceptical at first, but now we are complete converts. They are not cheap. Yet they do not cost as much as some Dyson models and yes they do a great job. Very little effort on our part. They are smart enough to cope with obstacles, multiple rooms and the Roomba finds its way back to its charger when it has finished. Much quieter than a normal vacuum. All you have to do is empty them and clean filters just like any other vac. The Scooba needs to have its water two compartments filled/emptied after each job.

I don't use the programmed schedule as the robots would start up when we are not home and set off the burglar alarms. There are accesories included to help the robots navigate the house but no set up issues. They avoid stairs and drop-offs. They detect dirty areas and concentrate on them. Very clever machines.

I would test it against the Sauber by vacum a carpet with it and then go over the same clean spot with the Sauber.
We have done the test against an industrial machine with two motors and the Sauber was superior.
You can get $400 trade in for the Sauber.
    Just a thought.
