Looks to have been a great trip !! I'm half way through your blog, a great effort & fun to read.
Well done..![]()
My wife and I are recently back from four months travelling around Australia in our Defender 90, Vin Rouge. In all we clocked up a little over 18,000 kilometres covering all states except WA and ACT. We've had an amazing experience and met some extraordinary people.
We also had a few problems with Vin Rouge (well what do you expect with an eighteen year old vehicle?). These concerned knackered bearings and some metal fatique. Fortunately we had some superb help. In particular I'd like to mention Ritters in Sydney and TRS in Adelaide. Both did an amazing job to get us rolling in double quick time. Thanks guys. It's appreciated.
If anyone wants the full story, see Vin Rouge in Australia

Hi there Kim and Mike !
Well, so many similarities to the adventure we are planning!
I have bookmarked your blog and look forward to reading it all - and making a few notes of places to go, etc!
We are planning 4 months in Australia from March to June 2014 - in a Defender 90. Our blog is Landy Travels | Up on the roof - so far the entries are about 'the build' and a few practice trips here in the UK.
(By the way, our 90 used to be the same colour as yours - but 3 years ago we did a full rebuild, including respray)
Love the Blog, fantastic pics and a great read.
A very nice Ninety too!
Thanks, Mick.

Hi Pam W
You'll have a wonderful trip I'm sure. Outback travel is great. The scenery is fantastic and the people you'll meet will share their experiences. You'll find the distances to be 'different' to the UK, but once you get used to it, distance is not a problem. Just don't go too far in a day. Apart from anything else, you'll miss the best bits.
Never fear a breakdown. You might have to wait a few hours or a day for the next vehicle but one will come along and will stop to assist. Just carry plenty of water - I can't stress this strongly enough.
March to June is the end of summer and it will be cold down south, although I doubt you'll finds any snow. It's warmer up north.
If we can help with anything, or you want to swap a tent for a real bed when you're in Brisbane, just give us a shout.
Kim & Mike
We've done a small bit of the outback before - Dave x2 and me x1 - competing in the Outback Challenge... But we only had 3 weeks in total - 8 days of that competing, the rest to and fro from Sydney container port!!
So we always said we'd do a longer trip at some point, and when stuff happens in your life you realise you don't know what's around the corner and you can't just keep saying... One day... So we set ourselves a target and the trip is now less than a year away!
In the south, we won't notice the colder weather too much as we'll be heading out towards the end of our winter - so whatever, it is going to be warmer in Australia! It is all relative !Have planned to do March/early April in the south then head up north as the rain stops and the unsealed tracks get graded and/or reopened.
Hope to meet up with other Land Rover enthusiasts along the way, as well as catching up with people we met when we did the Outback Challenge!![]()
