    Budgie Tunneled to Freedom!

Well I'll be buggered! We have (had) two budgies that lived in a cage but had free run of our sun room. The sunroom is typical of 70's sunrooms in QLD - glass walls and non insulated trimdeck or similar roof. Where the roof sheets meet the glass framed wall the gaps were filled with triangular-ish chunks of high density foam.
Well blow me down if in the space of one day one of our budgies managed to nibble part way through 4 of the foam infill chunks and completely nibble through a fifth, thus tunneling her way to freedom.
Shame 'coz the one that escaped was the tame one, very friendly and the family favourite.

So...anyone have a spare budgie as the remaining one is pineing and lonely. I don't buy from pet shops, I got these two from a mate breeder but it's not his breeding season.

Also anyone know where the foam infill triangular pieces can be obtained in Bris? About 80mm across the base, 50mm high with a truncated apex. I cannot believe how hard they are to obtain!

    Cheers
    Ralph

Try leaving a plate of seed out and your budgie might come back, if he is tame enough you should be able to catch him/her, good luck, Regards Frank.

use expanda foam. Birds like to nibble at the hardened outer casing but the dusty stuff in the middle gives them the irrits and they generally leave it alone.

Are you sure it wasn't smuggled out....by a visiting budgie smuggler. The tunnels could have been a decoy?

Mate, this is serious! You don't have live with the fallout.
Plus I have one too few budgies and one too many tunnels!

We have tried the seed option but I personally think (don't say it in front of the wife) that the poor thing has been 'overwhelmed' by the big bad bird world. We live on the edge of a forest park so get many many bigger, meaner looking birds like crows, miners, kingfishery things, as well as lots of parrots, galahs and the occaisional hawk/eagle. I suspect the worst.
