Thread: Let’s not offend anyone.

Speaking of which, I am the Chair of the School Board. I have fought, and won a small battle to be recognised as the Chair.

I was at a meeting the other day, with a lady named Melissa. She handed over her business card, and I noticed that she is the Chairman of another board.

So, what gives? I can't be a Chairman, but she can???

She can because she is a woman and they have made up these stupid gender rules!

Being the Chair is fine, until someone who should pay more attention to the salad cart decides they want to sit on you.

I can usually offend someone if the topic turns to religion.

There goes Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Mormon, Jihad, Fundamentalist, etc etc

I was under the impression that a "chair" in this case was a position, and a "chairman" the manager of that position (chair manager), rather than a sexual description of the person holding the position.

Currently I am sitting here in suspense, awaiting a knock on the door at any moment, heralding the arrival of some officers of the AFP, as yesterday I laughed at a joke that on reflection, may have had a sexual content that could quite possibly have been offensive to someone somewhere.

As for the current military case;
The one thing that I am eternally grateful for is the fact that back in my younger days in the Army, men and women were segregated (possibly due to the fact that with the draconian thinking of the day, we thought that there was a difference between them!). Otherwise, I know that I would be locked up well and truly by now and the key thrown away, as I am certain that some of the common terminology used by any NCO of the day would today be seen as sexist, derogatory, discriminative and degrading to so many poor little sensitive souls, bless their little hearts.

A chairman is usually a stronger chair that probably makes a farting noise when you sit on it. Hands up any men who are offended by that comment....
