yes very funny,
i wonder how much of the younger generation,
or perhaps even anyone born since 1975 knows what a typewriter actually is.
I wonder even if they know why the Shift key on 101 Keyboard is so called because it shifts the carriage position, and the return key is so called because it simulated carriage return , ( or knocking the monitor off the desk)
I know when I was a kid I used to get "The Typewriter" treatment from my older brother which involved beating me to the floor and simulated typing on my chest and than a whack to the side of the head (carriage return)
.... now my grandkids also fear "the typewriter"![]()
And why we have a keyboard layout like we do
You can't jam the hammers with a keyboard
And i was born in 1981![]()
We still have a very good stott&underwood office typewriter which has a massive .5kb internal memory, but it can be computer interfaced and used as a printer and is actually a better b&w printer for standard documents .
As part of his job in Chicago a few decades ago, a friend of mine had to interview applicants for a secretarial job.
The department he worked in had a policy that at his level, only manual typewriters could be purchased. This was at a time when electric typewriters were already the norm.
When most of the applicants were shown the equipment they would be expected to use they changed their mind about applying for the job.
However, one applicant took one look at the manual typewriter and was quite impressed. She said,"Wow, it's cordless!"
