It does happen occasionally with barra. They seem to do some crazy things at times. A couple of blokes were in a tinny near Townsville some years ago doing some night fishing in a creek when something flew out of the water and hit one of them in the chest then landed in the boat. When they turned the torch on to see what it was there was this enormous barra lying on the floor of the tinny. Needless to say it was never returned to the water. On a trip up the Gulf country in the 80's we were camped beside some rapids in the fresh section of a river and late at night we could hear splashing in the shallows. Thought it was probably a croc so went down with the torch to have a look and lo and behold here was this huge barra on it's side flipping it's way through the rapids. It was captured very quickly and we got several more that night. On the Nicholson crossing near Doomadgee years ago some aboriginals were catching barra as they jumped over the road crossing - much easier than fishing for them. They just waited until one jumped onto the concrete crossing where the water was only about 200 - 300mm deep and then leapt onto then and chucked them into the boot of their car.

Not Legal in VIC, you can't use bows or Bullets it state no shooting fish, but the regs don't mention bashing them with a steel rake Hmmm.

With the pollution in the Yarra river chances are that you can catch a fish with a magnet at the end of the line
