    Disco night

Well i had a interesting night last night. I was just settling in for a beer and a snuggle on the couch with the missus when at about 9:30 i got a phone cal from a mate. It goes something like this

    "hey mate are you busy?"

    "not really why"

"im halfway between Marble bar and Hedland and guess what im stuck in?"

Him and everyone else being Toyota drivers I was about to give him a ribbing when he said

"im in some chicks disco that is making some serious crunching sounds in the font wheel"

so after the toyota diagnosis i said
"is it the CV, swivel or the wheel bearing?"

"sounds like the wheel bearing as i can wobble the wheel a bit. do you think i can drive it home slowly for her, it's already locked the wheel up once when she was dong highway speed and darted her across the road. how much damage can it do?"

So easy i think to myself i'll just come out there with a socket set a hammer and some punches along with a new wheel bearing and some grease.

"just stay there and ill get a new bearing and she will be on her way in a jiffy."

Got out there and all was good until the inner bearing had heat welded itself to the shaft.

After a few hours of bashing it, trying to heat it up with a portable stove and bashing it some more it was decided to go back to hedland and get a grinder and generator. come back grind it off and all done by about 2 in the morning.

I think she was very lucky that my mate came along as she had 2 little ones in the car and no food and water. And all of the time we where there no one else except for one truck stopped.

so if someone is stopped on the side of the road please stop. one day it might be your missus and kids out there.

Too right mate. we ALWAYS stop in outback areas to ask if they want/ need anything. Specially if it is a Landy...The look on their faces when I tell them that I specialise in repairing them, and we are maybe 500km from the nearest town, is priceless

On one of my trips with the old 109 once I have to help a young couple with a baby on the road between Maryborough and Biggenden.
They said to me "we are ok someone will come in couple of hours to help us" I asked them do you have water? it is 11 am and summer.
No they did not have any!!
Even if the adults in the car are a bunch of idiots always make sure that there are not innocent lives in the vehicle who can pay with their life the stupidity of the adults.
