I went to bed at lunch thinking we had a good chance of making a decent score. Got up this morning and couldn't believe what I read!

Maybe we should offer the services of the AULRO Old Farts cricket team to the Australian Cricket Board - couldn't do any worse at batting!

Even though it seems a bad start to the second day, I'd never count the Aussies out until the "fat lady sings" as they say.
After over 40 years in Oz I've loved watching the tests between the Old Enemy and Oz and hated only the stupid displays of grief by bowlers if they get hit to the boundary.
The worst at this in my mind was Hilfenhaus who always looked as if he was going to burst into tears.
Sit back and enjoy it chaps, yer going to get well and truly done over this time.
    Maybe that is.

Years ago in the invincible years of my time - Waugh, Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist - I used to watch a lot of cricket with a mate and celebrated every win like it was a miracle, even though it was often on a streak of MANY wins in a row. His g/f would always ask how we could get so excited by winning EVERY game and never seeing a close game. We knew that it wouldn't last forever and wanted to cherish every moment. We knew the day would come, where we struggle to beat England in the Ashes and we don't have a "go to" fast bowler and a "go to" spinner and a "saviour" batsman every innings. We knew one day we would have to continue supporting the Aussie cricket team, regardless of the odds.

That day has come, and unfortunately I don't think it was yesterday...

    Come on Aussies!!!!

Now I'm feeling old. I cut my teeth watching Gooch, Gatting, Gower and Botham.. Being a Pom and having a Father who was one eyed English, I naturally supported England for many years. I slowly turned around to support the Aussies over the years - Dad was none too happy about that. It was great to watch the Aussies when they dominated the world, and I think we are a long way from getting close to being back there.

No disrespect to Pup, but he isn't a natural leader like Border, Waugh and Ponting were.

While I'm reminiscing, I still think Gower was the best player of the ball I have ever seen. When he was on song, his stroke play was just beautiful to watch.

10 minutes 'til lunch on a day when Australia needed quick wickets, and I can't remember seeing an appeal!

Yep, England are quite happy just prodding, blocking and then hitting the bad ball. Lead now 347, with 7 wickets still in hand. I can't see Australia coming back.

Yep, that's called Test Cricket. A game that Australia sadly lack the ability to play now. Too much hit and giggle these days - it has spoiled the true form of the sport. Just another victim of Sport becoming big business and the game suffering because of it.
