    Hume City Area - Melbourne

    G'day Melbourne-ites

I am not from Melbourne so I do not know the ins and outs of the area. I have been looking at job that has been advertised within the Hume City area in Melbourne. The job reads like a really good role and I cannot understand why it has been snaffled up; as it has been re-advertised a number of times already.

Is there something wrong with the geographical area like a high crime rate, poisonous rental markets - flown over by jets 24 hours a day 7 days a week?

Sometimes one reads of a really good job and a perfect position description and then after finding the location it is in some place close to a mine were you pay $1000 per week for the privilege of living in a chook shed.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

Probably depends on which part you're looking at, Hume does include Broadmeadows, which is a little on the rough side (mostly Collingwood supporters).
The airport is close by, as is Ford.
Rentals shouldn't be too bad, although I currently rent in Richmond, so anything under $500 per week seems cheap!

Hume City covers a large area of the outer north-western suburbs(fringe).
The western edge of Hume City is on the northern approach to Melbourne International Airport.
We have quite a few members within Hume who seem more than happy with the area

As mentioned Broadmeadows has bad reputation but not sure what it's like now.
Ford where a big employer in their day but now it's not so with more job cuts in the next few years.

Check rental rates for Sunbury or Craigieburn to get an idea of the area.
    Cheers, Kyle

As said above, Hume covers a wide demographic of society. The Broadmeadows area can be a bit rough but can get cheaper rentals. Having said that there are some nice pockets of housing in the area. There are newer estates to the north around Roxburgh Park or if a bit further out there is Sunbury or Craigieburn. These are satellite cities with good infrastructure and shops and you are still only 30 minutes from Melbourne. I prefer Sunbury but I'm biased.

Find out where the company is located and see what's close by.

As for the Job being still vacant, maybe they haven't found the right person yet. Many companies like to re advertise rather than take on someone not suitable.
    Cheers, David.

I have friends in Roxburgh Park. It is a new community and quite a nice area.
Lots of new Australians live in that area. There is a high Arab population there. My friends are Lebanese. I would have no issues in living in that area.
    Where is the job located?

I agree with Mick, 30 years ago you wouldnt go near Broady/ Pascoe Vale etc but now its completely different, sure there are places like Gladstone Park that is a complete dump and avoid like the plague but then there is Roxburgh Park , Greenvale and Craigieburn which arent too bad if english is your 2nd language.
I work in Tullamarine and have done for 13 years but before that i wouldnt step into the Western / Northern burbs after dark without a swat team - times have changed. Just buy yourself a beat up VN and you'll fit right in .

Don't see many VN's there now. Even my VR is sneered at. They've become more affluent and now drive VX, VY, and VZ's.
