    Musicians?

    Gday all,

Im just curious as to whether there are other musicians here. Amature or Pro. Old timers or learners. In music it doesnt matter.

Ive spent 20 years or so playing semi pro in bands when I was young, in duos when I was a bit older and these days I am doing solo singer songwriter shows. Im not in the charts, but I play a lot of weddings, cafes, festivals and corporate things and its given me a lot of joy over the years. To be honest Im winding back the business side of my music though and doing less paid jobs. It only ever paid its own bills and I still make my living with my day job. Ive given up cafe and corporate work because it really was starting to feel like a chore.

I have this desire to get back to where it all began and play around a campfire with happy people singing along. In all the years of playing music, those are among my happiest memories. Maybe I need to get back to the start and find some inspiration again.

So basically, I am wondering if there are other people on here who would like to have a bit of a jam session around a fire on one of the trips. I can guarantee it will be fun.

Yeah I'm learning Guitar, started to pick it up more often as of about 3mths ago, I want to get reasonably good before lashing out on a decent Guitar.

I also play drums a bit, the missus is classically trained on Piano, we have a Pianola, 1924 Beale, Made in Australia.

    Hi James,
I do the same myself, been playing guitar for over 40 years, but only as a hobby.
Since I retired I've taken it up again more seriously, now play each weekend at a local pub beer garden, small club gigs when I can get them.
If you are interested in country style music, our annual country music festival is on in June each year at Barmera SA on the banks of beautiful Lake Bonney, 2 weeks of campfire singalongs with a couple of warming ports to keep the night chills away.
I play a rather ecclectic selection of music, from old time rock and roll, blues, country, a bit of jazz etc.

I play quite a bit of country, and would love to drive to SA, so it could definitely be a goer. I also play pretty much anything....

in my teens I played country.
in my 20s I played in rock bands.
in my 30s I played in blues bands

now in my 40s I tend to play acoustic blues, folk and country.

Although up until recently I whored myself out for money and would play whatever they paid me to play. I dont recommend it. Its not very satisfying. Im basically burnt out and want to go back to playing for fun for people who appreciate it. After too many years of sitting at weddings having people yell "play some cold chisel" at you in the middle of songs it gets wearing.. lol.

Reback, do you have a djembie?

No, just the standard drums for me, African rhythms may be a bit of a challenge for me, as for the Guitar, I'm teaching myself Irish/Scottish folk music, throw a bit anything that comes easy too me at the moment.

Rainy Night in Soho by The Pouges is one I'm trying to get right, just got to remember the words now.

I play quite a bit of Jeff Lang. He was a huge influence on me about 10 years ago and I still try to catch him when he comes to Kat.
