Thanks for all your help and comments

Well I went the white Go Pro

Yeah yeah starter one but when I explained what I wanted from it and the salesman told me the black was far too over the top. Then he went on to explain the difference between the white and silver was so minimal that for what I was going to use it for I would not notice it anyway.

So got the white with spare battery, 32g card, windscreen mount , mount bag and go pro storage protection box.

Does anyone know if Gp Pro are intending to bring out a model that also make it a fully featured dash cam ie with gps, and the other features that differentiate a Go Pro from a dash cam - yes I know a Gopro can be used as a basic dash cam.

I would like a fully featured dash cam and a GoPro for other stuff but cannot afford both.

    Cheers

With any camera I would suggest getting a steady cam mount.
Shaky hand held or solid mount moving footage looks dreadful and spoils what might of been interesting footage.

I looked at the Go Pro.
I couldn't go pass the HD sports camera QC8020 sold by Jaycar.
I think I paid about 150 dollars for it.
It comes with all the mounts you would ever want, stick on, clamp on, bike , surf board, windscreen suction , etc.
The big thing I noticed with the GO Pro is every thing was a extra and the camera couldnt be aimed via the display screen as per the Jaycar item.
The screen on the Jaycar is also a touch screen to bring up different functions, but it will work as a 2 button in its water proof like a Go Pro clear case.
The Jaycar also has a remote control with it to.
I have found pic quality to be good when played back straight from camera to computer or TV( all cables are supplied).
I found transfering my vid onto you tube badly drops quality.
    Specs are
    5M pixels (cmos)
    4x digital zoom
    2.4 inch touch screen
    Image resolution....12m(4000x3000), 10m(3848x2736),8m(3264x2448),5m(2560x1920)

    Video Resolution VGA640x480(120 frames second),HD 1280x720 (60 frames sec),HD 1280x720(30 frames sec), FHD 1920x1080 (30 frames sec)

will run for 6 hours on lowest resolution on 32 GB and battery life is about the same.
It also has a anti viberation function

The camera was about 150 dollars and I purchased a class 10 32 GB micro card , that took the whole thing to 200 dollars.

Have a look at the Contour+2 (not roam2), or (I think) Blackvue.

This is one of my first plays with the camera........it was not running at anywhere near full picture quality.
No sound because the camera is in its protective clear case.

I found it works very well though the windscreen on its dash cam function, but cannot be connected to GPS.
On vehicle/dash cam mode it vids in 6 min sections and repeats over itself every six hours of vid.

Hey Ron - any idea if it can do time-lapse?
