I'm a waver and proud of it.:D
I wave to all Defender drivers and almost always get a wave back. I'm guessing that ones that don't wave didn't see me as I always feel guilty when I notice another Defender too late to wave.
D4 and D3 drivers have never returned a wave so I don't bother any more. D2 slightly better and D1 better again.
I think that the older model Discos (and certainly Defenders) are owned by those who *want* a Land Rover so understand the wave.
As a side story, I was recently on the Strzelecki Track heading south when I passed a small LR convoy going north. The fist 3 or 4 cars were D1s and D2s - the drivers all waved as expected but the last car in the convoy (a Defender) had the most enthusiastic waving I have ever seen - all the occupants waving like lunatics. I think the boredom of the Strzelecki track had got to them!
i try to wave when i remember, have had a few returned.
my new dilemma is toyota drivers now wave at me when towing the caravan, so i have to remember to wave to them as they were all giving a wave heading down the coast from qld. :D
LR's have becomes more reliable over the years and there is no longer the need to wave people down for help.
Its hard around town, but I always try to wave to Defenders and Series. Don't bother with Discos or anything else unless they look like they are used as nature intended.
On the open road I try to wave at everything - even Evoques!
Unfortunately, being in a Disco 4 waves very rarely get returned. Sad, but understandable given the average D4 driver. I did however get a wave returned by a Series III a couple of weeks ago, between Orange and Bathurst - made my day!
Maybe Defender drivers should start waving at all Land Rovers. Sure, it will be frustrating and you'll no doubt get a very low strike rate, but it might get more people thinking about it.
Cheers,
Jon
Didn't get a single wave back while I was driving from canberra to perisher.
Swmbo had to remind me,everytime, "sweetie, you're in a hire car"

hey Sam D.....whats boring about the Strezleckie track?
Well, the view after the first 100km or so - it's just all so 'samey' - there is little in the way of variety of scenery. And the road is better than most of the motorways around Sydney so there is no real driving challenge there either. Well, *most* of the road is better but the bits that aren't so good are just very corrugated and rocky, and still don't offer much in the way of anything different to see.
This is my opinion anyway and I was disappointed by it as I was looking forward to it so much. :(
Now, The Oodnadatta Track was very different! :D
