    is the Landy wave dying?

as some of you may recall from my threads a few weeks ago I have just done another trip from Emerald to William Ck via Birdsville. I will bring the tyre report up to date in the other thread later. What concerns me is over 5000km's with the different events happening around the different outback centres, there were a good number of Land Rovers of various breeds, whom/which I passed on the track and whom/which I waved to quite vigorously, and whom/which didn't respond except for the D4...thank you D4, whomever you may be. What is wrong with the rest of you?

Mate - I think the wave is dead and past rigor mortis.

About the only time that I get a wave is from other D3's / D4's - and they're very few and far between. Usually only from others which look like they are set up to venture further than the shopping centre / soccer field / private school car parks.

Passed a white D4 with Queensland plates twice in Kalgoorlie yesterday. Looked very well set up for touring and was probably towing a van when on the road, as I saw it turn into a caravan park in Boulder. Waved twice and just received bank stares in return - but getting used to that now.

I did get a big wave from both occupants of a white Evoque a little while back down at the Kambalda turnoff on the Coolgardie - Norseman road.

Very occasionally, I get a wave from D1 / D2 drivers. Defenders - have long ago given up on them. Only one I get a wave from is one locally who I know the owner of, and he knows my D4. His wife also waves when she's out & about in the Defender.

Doesn't seem to matter whether I'm driving the D4 or my old (now my son's) D2. The response to waves to other Landy's is about the same.
    Cheers .........

In nsw, I really only get waves from other defenders and have basically given up on discoveries... just far too many are soccer mum cars. Having said that I drove past a d2 today and was craning my neck to check it out when the driver noticed and waved.. he got a big one in return.

I have also noticed that since going to a puma i get far less waves returned form other defender drivers than i did in my TD5.. everyone waved to the TD5.

The only time i dont wave to deefers is if i didnt see you. Discos.. only if you wave 1st. Freelanders.. honestly have no idea what they look like.

Hmmm, I must be the odd one out.
I wave to everyone on the road, truckers, all 4WD's, utes, bikes, even ordinary cars.
OK, I don't get many waves back, but I wave to everyone I pass in my travels.
It must be hereditary, grandad did it, dad did it, I do it.

A few years ago I was travelling across the Nullabor in my 300tdi. Coming towards me was a vehicle of some description that as soon as it got close the driver switched on flickering lights all around the window and some sort of electrically powered hand that lit up and waved back and forth. On top of that the occupants nearly fell out of the vehicle waving out the windows. Talk about a welcome. My wife and I having waved frantically back laughed our heads off. Jim

I wave to all 90/110 and series Land Rovers I see and have since I worked it out in my first series land rover many years ago.

Usually I don't return a wave when I don't see, and there is only 1 that hasn't returned the wave and they are younger drivers who I would drive past every couple of weeks, so I don't think they understand yet as I didn't when I had my first one at 18.
