I think I've mentioned it before but a few years ago family living in USA (executive types) told me they were going to the LA car show , I said great get some photos of the Landrover DC100 for me, One of them said he really likes the Landrovers, (suprise to me) They test drove Discovery and Freelander in LA but ended up buying XC-60

anyway a few months later they moved to Sydney and I drove them around in the Defender looking at Houses to rent and then around car yards to buy a car, over about a two week time frame, on the last day one of them asks "why do you have a LandRover badge on my truck"

    I nearly fell over

That just about sums up why you will never get a return wave from RangeRover D2 D3 D4 Freelander , they don't even know what a Defender is, and chances are they never even noticed one in the LR Showroom

Other than Defenders and Series Landys (80% return wave) I only wave to D1 and RRC (about 10% return wave) , your flogging a dead horse with the others. If they do notice you wave they just think "who the **** was that" you might as well be driving a Toyota.

Yeah.. I wouldnt wave to you. Im one of those idiot puma POS drivers.

FFS, maybe that's half the problem.
Stop putting **** on people for not waving if you don't wave yourself!
I have a D2, and I wave at EVERYTHING with an LR badge, hell I've even had evoque owners not only wave but come and have a chat.
I've gotten a wave from every model LR I've passed, so enough with the "xxx owners don't wave".

I have an idea to bring back the wave! We can take this to social media and get all landrover owners involved! A lot of people don't know/understand the wave concept especially drivers of the new discos (not saying all) we should raise awareness of the wave and bring it back!
In short everyone needs to take to Facebook and Twitter and lets spread the word instead of just talking about it with other like minded people who wave at each other

Once off the highway and on the way to the farm I wave to everything.... Its a country australia thing I assume, based on the remoteness of everything here.

I always think of it as the equivalent of a passing "Howre you going mate", and the reply wave being "Im good mate, and you?".

Since buying my first landrover (P38) 2 months go I have waved to every landrover that I have past - defenders, range rovers and discovery's and I have NOT got one returned yet!!!!

It makes me think " Is there any any owners out there in Brisbane still waving?"

Dont worry James, I'll wave to you as I'm another one of those POS Puma Drivers as well . I wave to just about all Landy's on the road and probably get about a 70% return wave ratio. It's mainly the soccer mums that don't wave back but mainly in the Rangie's and Evoques. But who cares, if they're that ignorant, that's their problem. Life's too short to worry about it.

I've waved and had waves back to other defender and county drivers up in Darwin. Passed 4 last week and 2 of them responded. On the highway though my response rate is higher!

Was driving back to the office today (in a Hilux) following a 130, when in the opposite direction came a 90 (both Pumas) the 90 certainly waved, couldn't see in the rear view whether the wave was returned.

when i was driving around NT & WA earlier this year, i waved to everyone as as part of an experiment.

about 25% of males wave back
about 5% of females wave back

Interesting.. Ive noticed the same thing. Im yet to have a female in anything other than a deefer wave back. I got a very filthy look waving at a lady in a D4 this morning...

I pass a yellow deefer most mornings and get an enthusiastic wave back from the lady driving.
