A decision had to be made!

Well after umming and ahhing over what to do about the lack of a suitable ute around here I finally took the plunge on this thing...

Since the last vehicle I bought was a double decker bus with no engine or gearbox I figured this had to be a better choice.

We needed a ute pretty badly around here and I found myself looking at the generic choice's of Navara's and Hilux's and the like.......I just couldn't do it! Plenty of 'em around but I really didn't want anything other than a Land Rover, preferably a TD5 110 tray, and had **** all chance of finding one.

But I did find one! Bought it asap and found myself fixing a leaking fuel filler hose before I'd even left the town I bought it in. Lmao

Get home after a wicked drive and I think it has a head gasket failure. Do I care?

    Not one little bit.
    Cheers

looks like you made a good decision then , it looks nicely setup and not abused for a 14yo motor car.

No doubt you have acquainted yourself with all the foibles of the Td5 and can cope with them.

They are said to be a very robust engine.

You will enjoy the practical benefits of them too, like increased power, effortless cruising and economy afer the V8.

    Well done !

That is a beautiful car, and cool in the way only a Land Rover can be.

    Thank's guy's.

I believe it's Benny IIA's old ute. There's a build thread in members rides somewhere.

Got to admit my only real experience with owning diesel's until now has been the 6.5 V8 boat anchor in a previous Defender and some Hilux I had through work. Both of which made the 2.25 in my shorty look good!
Have always loved V8's but I think I'm converted, and it only took an hour and a half of turbo whistle to convince me!

It's not without it's issues though, as is usual for me and Land Rover's it seems. Got it at a good price considering 110 TD5 ute's are so rare, it has a lot of the good stuff already done and it hammers!

Anyhow.....plenty of question's to ask in the tech section. I look forward to learning all there is to know about the TD5.
    Cheers

I'm pretty sure he didn't Lou. Must be another one you're thinking of.

I've tried to contact Benny via PM through here, trying to get any info I can not already covered in his build thread and associated post's.....yet to hear from him.
    Cheers

    mick, nice looking ute!

as regards head gasket, if it has gone then it is a good thing in a way as you can now replace it and fit steel dowels, and then keep on driving it hard and enjoying it!

Very true. I tend to hold onto vehicle's for a long time so any money spent isn't really a big concern as in the long run I should have a reliable working vehicle.

Take the County for instance. I paid $2000 to buy it but in the last 7-8 years have probably spent around ten times that in improvements/upgrades and repairs. It has nearly 400,000km's on the clock but it's irrelevant because it's a "grandpa's axe" type thing.....everything has been fixed and/or replaced at some time or another and it just soldiers on and on.

    Spewing it's not a ute!
