83 v8 defender advice needed
I am trying to get my motor started, it is a new project, the motor turns over but the starter wont stop it keeps turning need some advice please

sounds like the key switch is sticking,give it a spray up the key slot and around the barrel with WD40, or Inox which does not leave sticky residue.
or it could be faulty contacts in the solenoid.

Have you recently dismantled the wiring from the ignition switch? Possibly its been re connected incorrectly or try disconnecting the battery and turning the key to the start position, there should be two distinct positions, then resistance for the final turn ( a spring return) If there is no spring resistance then the assembly is shot.
This is the part you need for an 83 ( 83 is a County, not a defender)

By co incidence I just bought one and it took 3 weeks to arrive as customs held it up. The seller could not provide the tracking number so has sent another one gratis. ( I have done the right thing & told them & they said to refuse delivery).. But I tend to side with Uncle Ho about sticking solenoid,
