    America's Cup awesomeness

Anyone else watching the rediculously fast awesome racing in this regatta?

    Cliff Notes:

Best of 17 races so is first to nine.

Oracle Team USA was docked 2 points preceding the regatta for cheating in a previous regatta leading up to this one so they started at -2.

Emirates Team NZ are in the lead six races but now the Oracle team have made changes on the boat and it looks to be the equal of the Kiwi boat.

These boats go at stupid-crazy speeds like 47 knots reached this morning by Team NZ.

Kiwis almost capsized their AC72 this morning and then the next race was called off due to exceeding the safe wind speed.

Previous races are all on You Tube.

For some reason Race 5 won't work for me here in NZ

For some reason Race 8 won't work for me here in NZ either (seems a bit silly)

It's pretty awesome racing, those things are so quick. The apparent wind angle is so far forwards that even going downwind they're effectively tacking instead of gybing.

As for the foils....such a good development and, potentially, the future of small cat racing.

Seeing the Kiwis stuffing the billionaire team is wonderful. I hope they take home the chrome (is the Auld Mug the most beautiful trophy in sport?) by early next week and the the next AC is on smaller, cheaper boats.

    Go ETNZ.

It is an amazing site when both hulls are out of the water doing 20+ knots, amazing tech involved.

Honours even on the water today - the first race was a domination from the Oracle boys with some great calls from Ben Ainslie.

The second race was fantastic - the lead changed hands four times, with the Kiwis coming out on top....but I think the ETNZ guys will need to do some work on the boat today and tonight (our time) to find some more speed - the OTUSA shore crew have improved their boat to the point that it's arguably a quicker boat than the Kiwis now.

No, not best of 17. Just first to 9. If it was best of 17, there would be no way for USA to win should NZ get to 8.

Great effort from ETNZ so far, and gods I hope we get the cup so some sanity can return, and more may be interested in participating in it.

Foiling technology has been developed in the Moth Class for quite a while.
Foiling moths had the original good foils designed by a F1 aero team. My son just sold his Moth recently and on his GPS had clocked a maximum of 30.6 knots speed on an 11' or 3300mm yacht.
Some of the sailors are Moth sailers on these boats where they were able to train up to gybe while on foils. The moths can also tack on foils.
If anyone is interested in seeing a little yacht travelling at a crazy speeds and to see where this foiling came from and where yachts are heading then jump on Utube and search for foiling moths.
