so you want to nanny state us and hold everyone back because of the few people who lack judgement.
why not test drives and take away the licence of people who lack judgement?
remove the bad drivers from the road.

to get to our destination quicker.
i have better things to do than drive for 10hours at 110 when i do 8.5 hours at 130.
that extra hour and a half is time i can be working on my car, seeing my partner, or sleeping.
driving between major cities isnt ego driven, its done for work, for holiday, for family, etc
"dude im bored, i know, lets drive from melb to syd at 130, that will be fun"[/QUOTE]
Disagree, entirely , sane, responsible drivers drive to get there alive. Thrill seekers , just for the thrill, *******, just because they can. If you want to get somewhere earlier, leave earlier, normal people have been doing that for years, Bob
...
Bob, I don't recall if I have mentioed it but European limits OFF the motorways are actually lower than ours, but they do have a crapload of extra traffic plus little towns almost everywhere. It's amazing how populated the place is. I would only advocate 130 on our dual carriagways and the remote roads that are up to par, like the far western Sturt, the Stuart up the guts and certainly from Ceduna to Norseman across the Nullabor. Those roads you have out in remote Queensland where it's a single lane bit of tar with gravel on both sides so you can duck out of a road trains way don't cut it that's for sure. :) I'm not a big fan of QLD roads so I can sympathise with your concern.
and i can drive at 130 and still be sane, responsible and i'll get there alive.
leaving earlier means less sleep, sleep time with my partner, less time playing with my cars.
there are 24hours in a day, i dont want to waste them.
spending an extra hour and a half driving when its avoidable is wasteful.
or we can turn the tables and say the speed limit should be set to 90km/h.
anyone doing 110 is insane, irresponsible and just a thrill seeking ******.
Life is short, personally I want to get the most out of mine.
I read a good saying once, some might take it as a tosser thing, but it goes like this:
"I'd rather die trying to live, than live trying not to die"
I, personally consider myself a safe driver, because I am aware of my surroundings, drive to the conditions, the capability of the car, and my capability. I've learnt these capabilities in controlled environments, and I don't risk other people lives being stupid, I don't believe I risk mine in day to day activities any greater than the average person either.
But I do believe there is a point where safety is ridiculous, to the point it can have a negative effect.
Normal people have deadlines and commitments, I don't know your personal situation, but sometimes you can't leave earlier, and wasting time travelling, when the risks are only slightly greater is a risk a lot of people are willing to take. It's no different to sitting in heavy traffic around town, it annoys everyone because travel time is increased.
Do you enjoy traffic jams Bob?
most of us here have driven the tanami.
the first 100km leaving alice is single road hard top. so when a car comes the other way, both cars slow down, pull over and pass safely.
doing 110, 130 or 150 wont make a difference. if you see a car coming, you will slow down, pull over and pass safely.
also, on the highways, if everyones trip time is cut down by 10% that means less cars on the road as cars have reached their destination and are off the road.
