Driving in the Himalayas
I've just been sent this link
The XUV Face-off: Chennai to Leh Ladakh! Turtuk, Pangong Tso, Hanle and Tso Moriri - Team-BHP
It's a long post, the Himalayas stuff starts day 6 through to day 16.
Carol & I are going there next July, although we'll be in a Ford Ecosport (to be released here in the new year I see).
The window is July 10 to August 10. Although the roads are open into September, once the weather closes in, that's it. No rescue. The bodies are recovered in the following summer.
You need a head for heights. I have enough trouble in south India at 6000 ft, sheer drop with buses coming at you. At least there are concrete barriers. Up there there are apparently a few spots at 16000 ft, dirt, sheer drop, no barriers and still the buses come at you!
